Beauty and Make up Tips: Pay Attention to the Expiration Date

make upAccording to a British research, all women using make up after the expiration date, are seriously risking their health. Many women admit they don’t know when is the expiration date of their beauty products and sometimes they may even use them for years after it is expired. It is definitely not a good idea to keep on applying on your skin make up that smells bad or doesn’t have it’s typical color anymore.

The mascara is usually good for not more than 6 months, eye shadows – between 18 and 24 months, eyebrows pencil – 18 months. The lipstick and all kind of lip balms are usually ok to use for 12 to 24 months and perfumes – 36 months.

According to the same research 49% of women don’t even remember to look at the expiration date after they start using certain beauty product. More disturbing though is the percentage of the women (about 66%) who admit they would still use the make up even after the expiration date is due without worrying that can be harmful to their health. And 73% of the women say they are not aware what kind of substances the make up contains.

The consumers themselves are the main reason the beauty products to go bad. Bacteria, dust – no matter how terrible it sounds – they are constantly on our skin, hair, in the air, on the numerous objects we touch every day.

Although most of the microorganisms are harmless, some of them can ruin the beauty products we use and that would lead to skin irritation and even infections.

Beauty Tips: Amazing Scrub with Lemon Peels and Sugar

brown sugar and lemons

One of the best home recipes for preparing body scrub includes lemon peels, which literally awaken the body, refresh and scent it throughout the whole day. This kind of scrub can be prepared very easily and has an amazing effect, especially if you decide to spoil yourself at night before going to bed.

So here is the recipe: in a deep bowl mix half a cup of brown or white sugar and a spoon of finely grated lemon peels. Then start slowly adding olive oil until you get an even, homogeneous mixture. There is no way to go wrong with the proportions, the important part is not to leave the exfoliation blend too dry. Just add the olive oil slowly and mix energetically.

To get the maximum effect of the peeling scrub use it at night. First warm the body with hot water for a few minutes to get it ready for the exfoliation process. Then take a little from the lemon paste in your fingers or use a soft sponge and massage the whole body with circular motion without pushing hard.

The same mixture can be used on the face, but we would add a pinch of cinnamon for more scent. Cinnamon is being used in the cosmetic industry a lot because of its antibacterial properties. Also it slowers the aging process and makes the skin soft and smooth. For oily and problematic skin you can use etheric oil made of cinnamon. So here is another great feature of this magical spice – use it not only in the mornings with coffee, but also add a little to your home made facial masks for amazing results!

Beauty Tips: How to Effectively Whiten your Teeth at Home

smile and white teeth

Stained and dark teeth can seriously damage our smile and self-esteem. There are so many things that cause the discoloring of the teeth including coffee, cigarettes and wine. Although you can find lots of products to whiten your teeth over the counter, I am going to suggest several ways to do it at home. Lots of people are aware that baking soda can bleach the teeth really well. But mixing it with a few other ingredients will exalt the effect.

Here are some beauty tips on how to prepare an effective whitening tooth paste at home:

The mint mix:

Mix 5 spoons of baking soda with one full of vegetable oil, 8 drops of mint and half a spoon of salt. Keep the mixture in a bottle and use it as a natural tooth paste.

Strong whitening:

To remove the stains off your teeth mix 2 spoons of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide until reaching the consistence of a tooth paste. Use that bleaching mix twice a week so to get rid of the stains and the yellow color on your teeth.

Vodka and Lemonade:

Mix 2 spoons of baking soda, 1 little spoon of vodka and same amount of lemon juice plus half a spoon of salt. Keep the mixture in a well closed bottle and use to bleach and clean the teeth. Don’t give to children!

Important: don’t swallow none of the mixtures described above!

Hair and Beauty: Natural Recipes Against Dandruff

Everyone of us has dandruff – more or less and we all do our best to get rid of it. The little white specks all over the hair and shoulders are not only physical inconvenience, but also aesthetic – every beautiful haircut or cute outfit gets ruined. So today we are talking how to eliminate the problem by using all natural home made products and masks.

The folk medicine suggests for a really tough dandruff heat up some water and 4 spoons of olive oil plus the juice of half a lemon. Divide the hair into locks and rub the warm mixture into the roots of the hair right before you are going to wash it. That kind a mask would restore the acidity of the scalp and the dandruff would go away.

Another option of that recipe is: 2 yolks mixed with lemon juice (squeezed from half a lemon) and a few drops of castor oil. Again rub in the hair – it will make the dandruff go away and the hair – shiny.

Sometimes the dandruff may appear after dying the hair as that makes it weaker. There is a good chance to make it disappear if you start using natural dyes with no ammonia.

Another great preventative recipe is: extract from marigold and castor oil mixed 1:1 – apply on the hair and let it stay for an hour before washing away. Nettle is also amazing natural product very healthy for your hair. If you can find a pound of young nettle, pour some hot water on it and then let it cool off. Apply that on your hair and scalp. That’s also very good mask against hair loss. If you can’t find fresh nettle, there are lots of shampoos and products made of it, so you may try those. Couple of examples I found on Amazon which are rated as really good by the customers:

Korres Sage and Nettle Shampoo For Oily HairNature's Gate Daily Cleansing Shampoo for All Hair Types, Herbal

Nettle Shampoo for Oily Hair – $18 Nature’s Daily Cleansing Shampoo- $22.91

Please share if you know an effective product that would helps us get rid of the dandruff!

Make up Tips and Trends for the Winter Season – part 2

Natural Make up trendy this winter

Continuing the make up tips and trends from yesterday and don’t forget the key word for this season fashion look is “natural”!

Smokey eyes:

This winter the eye make up trends are oriented toward the dark “cat” or smokey eyes. It is important to create your own style by trying out different things and playing with the contouring and the intensity of the colors. Use a soft black pencil to outline the whole eye for a super intensive look like the Gucci models or add some color (purple or blue) and easily spread it around using soft brush for a dark smokey look. Don’t forget to apply some foundation around the eyes, because the strong make up attracts attention toward even the smallest imperfections. The ideal match for smokey eyes are light lips in natural hues – peach, coral, pale pink.

No mascara:

I am sure many of us will find out the habit of putting mascara is almost impossible to be discontinued, so the trend “no mascara” turns out to be one of the hardest and at the same time the easiest to follow. The lack of mascara gives us freedom to experiment with the eye liner and shades to contour and outline the eyes. And if you still can’t go a day without your favorite mascara, change the black with a brown one.

Outlined eyebrows:

Last year’s trendy look with “no eyebrows” is no longer in fashion. This season the eyebrows are big, outlined and well shaped. Do that by using appropriate eye pencil and then add some gel or Vaseline cream with a little brush. An important part of that look is: don’t apply any make up on the eyes, not even mascara. Fashion houses who put the accent on the eyebrows were Prada and Alberta Ferretti.

I hope you enjoyed today’s make up tips – stop by soon for more!

Make up Tips and Trends for the Winter Season – Part 1

red lips and no make up eyes

Many fashion houses are suggesting for this winter season the natural hues. The natural make up though means flawless skin and perfect tan. And that takes a lot of time and good care of yourself. Today we will review the main make up trends for this season when it comes to face and lips. Next time will continue by talking about the eyes and eyebrows. Enjoy our specially selected make up tips and trends:

Mat skin – the ideal finishing touch:

Healthy, good looking skin is the most important fashion trend for this season. The make up should not be visible, rather looking natural, light and fresh. For those who weren’t born with flawless skin, the effect is attainable by selecting the right products. Use a moisturizer as a basic, wait until it is completely absorbed by the skin and then apply a little mineral foundation. Finish with silky – mat powder by using a big puffy brush so to avoid unnecessary lodgment of powder on your face.

Vivid lips:

The classic is back. Every hue of the red – from black currant to raspberry is trendy this winter as long as it looks chic and modern rather than retro. Red vivid lips with same color nail polish and little or no make up is a killer combination this season.  That very sensual look was part of many designers’ collection during Paris fashion week. Some examples are Chanel, Dolce and Gabanna and Jean Paul Gaultier.

First outline the lips by using a pencil and then apply the lipstick. For better precision use a little brush. Very trendy are the shiny lips as well as the mat finish. And don’t forget about the same color nail polish!

Come back tomorrow for the rest of the make up tips and trends!

Quotes on Beauty: Beauty is Everywhere

“There is certainly no absolute standard of beauty. That precisely is what makes its pursuit so interesting.” ~ John Kenneth

Yes – we can not set beauty in certain standards that’s why it has different meaning for everybody. Do whatever makes you happy, stay healthy, get surrounded by positive people and smile – beauty will walk next to you no matter what! Why chase it when we carry it in ourselves?

Hair and Beauty During the Winter Months

hair and beauty animation

Continuing the topic “hair and beauty“. Winter is here and can do lots of damage to your hair. The strong wind, rain, snow, drying warm air from the AC – all that has harmful effect on the hair and that’s why we need to take very good care of it especially during the cold season. And having weak and damaged hair makes it impossible to look gorgeous and flawless.

So we need to do a few things to assure the hair and beauty are going together. First of all do a little review of your cosmetics – shampoo, conditioner, hair masks and products – make sure you are using the best for your hair. The main issue during the winter season is drying of the skin and hair. That’s why you need moisturizing products containing panthenol which keep the hair healthy. When doing your hair styles avoid using dryer or flat iron as much as possible. And if you still need to use those devices, protect the hair with non-washable conditioner or hair serum.

When going out wrap a scarf around your head or use a loose hat.  I am saying loose because something too tight would be bad for the circulation. Very trendy for this winter are all kind of hats, caps, fedoras. So you can easily find a piece to fit your style without worrying to be out of fashion. If possible avoid washing the hair with very hot water and never go out without completely drying it, because that’s harmful not only for the scalp but for the hair as well by making it break and split. During the winter months it’s better to visit your hair stylist at least once a month so to have the ends cut and do a nourishing mask. Following these easy beauty tips you will have healthy and shiny hair and of course feel pretty and confident!
